بر اساس روش‎های جدید انسان‎شناسی (Anthropology)، موضوعاتی که در زمره اصطلاح معماری قرار می‎گیرند، عبارتند از تمام چیزهایی که در سطح جهان توسط بشر و موجودات منسوب به او (از نظر بیولوژیکی)، ساخته شده و می‎شود. مواد و منابع علمی اساساً معماری را به چهار طبقه تقسیم می‎کنند:

1. معماری یکجانشینی (Sedentary architecture): واحد پیشرفته‎تر معماری که به شکل ویژه روی آن فکر شده و ترکیبی از چندین عنصر معماری معنایی و یا خانگی است.
2. معماری خانگی (Domestic architecture): ساختمان‎هایی که فضای داخلی و محافظ را تأمین می‎کنند.
3. معماری معنایی (Semantic architecture): ساختمان‎های غیرخانگی که به عنوان نشانه‎های منطقه‎ای، اجتماعی و نمادین عمل می‎کنند.

4. معماری مادون انسان (Subhuman architecture): رفتار آشیانه‎‎سازی میمون‎های بزرگ
