این نوشته تلاشی است برای تشریح ضرورت تدوین مبانی طراحی معماری و با این طرز فکر نگاشته شده است که معماری می‎بایست بر اساس اصولی پایه‎ریزی شود که بتوان آنها را مورد آزمایش دقیق علمی و تجربی قرار داد.

در حال حاضر کتابی برای راهنمایی معمار جوان و مشتاق وجود ندارد که توضیح دهد چگونه می‎توان یک محیط مناسب برای فعالیت‎های انسان طرح‎ریزی نمود و آن را به مرحله اجرا درآورد. همچنین راهنمای واضح و روشنی برای طراحی موجود نیست که بر مبنای ایده‎هایی پایه‎ریزی شده باشد که راه را برای تحقیق و بازبینی باز بگذارند. در عوض دانش معماری در اذهان معماران ورزیده و آکادمی‎های معماری پنهان و مستور است.
